Big boys toys

I must have caught My Boy in a good mood on Monday he offered to  collect the rest of the paving slabs  for me,  the last  24 were collected in the truck and delivered to the lottie- so in total that was 45 freebie paving slabs!

My Boy is very pleased with his new toy,  so just a little picture of his 2 favorite toys to share with you;-

I was away yesterday,  I arrived home tonight about 7.00pm after a 3 hour drive home, My Girl had been to visit her friend and obviously feeling better as she had taken her bike.  10 minutes after arriving home Mr Milly had a call from My Girl,  she had fallen off her bike, cut her toe and was crying - she is 18 years old remember!  I honestly despair - she is so like her dad!!  LOL!

Mum to the rescue....  off to Walton to pick her up,  My Milly called me on the way,  her friend had gone off to get her some water and a plaster, I did chuckle!

One damaged daughter collected,  bike loaded into the back of the car, we did have a little chat on the way home - it went something like -  Now My Girl, what have you learnt from this?  Not to wear flip flops when riding my bike.  Is there anything else you've leant - Yes Mum not to ride a bike when the brakes aren't working!!!

The bruising is from earlier in the week - the very nasty cut toe is today's injury......

And drum roll  please.........................Look what Mr Milly and me did today............................




I think I could hear the sweetcorn sighing with relief

 And just to prove it.... they are planted in their brand new bed on the Lottie!!

My Girl laughed when she saw this picture and said they looked pathetic - well what does she know?!  I think they look lovely, and we are very pleased with ourselves!

My Girl has spent the day feeling sorry for herself - sitting as instructed with her feet up and ice packs,  she said the foot is feeling better today - I keep asking her if she is ready for digging - the answer every time is NO!!

I sent an email to the man who has given us the paving slabs through Freecyle,  still about 15 or so to be collected,  they were supposed to be collected yesterday, but  it was not possible with the hours and hours we spent in the hospital.   I fully expected to loose the slab and for him to offer them elsewhere,  well he has offered to keep them for me, even if it is a couple of weeks before I can collect - I am delighted and surprised they are going to sit at the end of his garden waiting for me,  Isn't that a really lovely and kind offer!   So after a rubbish day yesterday,  I think today has turned out rather well!  :)

Where did...

...  that weekend go??   It has absolutely flown past, and was it productive?.. read on....

 

The day started well,  All six hens produced lovely eggs today and some really big ones too, so bacon and egg rolls for breakfast energy food before the work began.   Then an offer from the Portuguese Housekeeper to help at the Lottie today - so 1 person becomes 3 people and the promise of achieving lots.

 

My Girl and I went to pick up some more paving slabs we managed 11 in the car this time,   collected the Portuguese Housekeeper and began unloading the slabs,  2 at a time in a wheelbarrow and 2 at a time in a shopping trolley we were loaned,  with just 4 more to be go,  the wheelbarrow with one of the paving slabs in toppled over - right on the top of My Girl's foot - my goodness did she howl!!!!!!!!!!  And my goodness did it swell and swell and swell!!

 

So the next 4.5 hours were spent in A&E...  fortunately nothing is broken (I am really surprised, its twice the size of the other one!)  with a nasty cut on the top, so a tetunus jab and some dressing,  home with a pair of crutches and the weekend is finished.

So what did we get done this weekend..

1. Dig out some bramble roots   Done
2. Dig over and make a raised bed   Digging done
3. Fix the deck boards - for the raised beds - Cut drilled and ready to go,  but didn't make it to the Lottie
4. Plant the sweetcorn and courgettes
5. 2nd Coat of paint on the shed  Done
6. Fix the shed roof - attach the plyboard, attach the roofing felt
7. Lay the shed veranda - for Mr Milly
8. Attach guttering to the shed - ready for the waterbutt
9.  Set up the waterbutt - if we ever get rain again, I'll be ready!

Busy busy,...

Well that's today,  its been busy, busy...  Started this morning with some paving slabs being offered on Freecyle..  I sent off my email and kept my fingers crossed.  And the CD cases were collected yesterday.  Isn't Freecyle brilliant!!!!

Went to visit Chris with Mr Milly,  cup and tea and rummage in the garden - thank you again Chris for all of the offers today.

Home to make some lunch and flask of tea and my darling Girl said she would come to the Lottie with me!   And my goodness wasn't it hot today!!  We painted the shed, got rid of a few piles of cut brambles, and started digging out some roots - and we did good!  I was really pleased,  my new Azada did the job and I was popping bramble roots out left, right and centre.  Mr Girl tackled the really big ones with gusto, some real whoopers.  As it was so hot we worked for 10 minutes, stopped for 10 minutes on and off for a couple of hours.    Mid way through the day I had a phone call,  the paving slabs were mine - 32 of them and the big ones too - I don't think Mr Girl was quite as thrilled as I was though - they are so heavy!

We went to pick up some of the slabs - too big and heavy to have them all in the car, so we collected 11 today and back for the rest tomorrow - these were dropped off at the Lottie,  it took a little while, just 2 at a time in the wheelbarrow - then we rushed home, showered and  went to spent a lovely evening with My little bro and his family.   A very busy day.......

I have 2 days now - time to start working on a bed or 2 I think.   Mr Milly has cut the deck boards ready to make a couple of raised beds.   My  Azada arrived today I hope its as good and easy to use as I have been told it is,  its supposed to make it easier to get those bramble roots out.. we will see.

The plan for this weekend;-

1. Dig out some bramble roots - with the wizzy Azada!

I think with a 2 day weekend and a team of 10 people the list should be no problem - but 9 of the people are missing, so this weekend it is just me!!

Emails

I opened my emails tonight to check my Freecyle messages in the hope that some paving slabs are being offered - none again today.  But Mr Milly's friend has some going spare, left over from her garden project and we can have them!  I am really pleased and will be meeting up for coffee, a chat and pick up the slabs -Thank you C x x 

There was one interesting offer on Freecycle today,  100 CD cases......  hmmmm I wonder where they are from and whats happened to the CDs??

Explanation

I think its time to explain.  I am sure you must be wondering why the shed on the Lottie came first...   well there are a couple of reasons;

1. Tools can be stored in the shed - obviously!
2. With tools in the shed,  I don't have to use the car, the Eco-life begins,  me and My Girl can cycle!
3. How else am I going to collect rainwater in my freebie water butt,  the Eco life continues!
4. Mr Milly needs a safe haven,  too many brambles and thorns on the plot at the mo - so he has to sit and watch,  which is very frustrating for him.  He has already had a puncture and if that continues he won't come to the Lottie with me.  :(

I think those 4 are good enough reasons,  in fact number 4 on its own is a good enough reason to complete the shed first. 

I'm on the look out now for some freebie paving slabs to put round the shed and build Mr Milly a little veranda - until he is able to move properly around the plot, he can supervise, tend seeds, make tea and keep me company,  I'm sure I will think of plenty more things for him to be doing!

No paving slabs on freecyle for a while,  but My Girl had a really  brilliant result today - Wood!  Lots and lots of all sorts of wood,  there is ply wood and battening for the shed roof,  wood for shed shelves,  conti board for shelves needed in the house,  posts for the corner of the raised beds,  paintable wood for plant labels (My Girl has the paint brushes out again!),  the same lady also gave us a box of CDs - about 100 in total -  to be used as bird scarers.   Another great find - Well done My Girl!!
